On Tuesday, August 25, 2020, the administration was notified that a ninth-grade student tested positive for COVID-19. That individual experienced the onset of symptoms beginning Monday, August 24, and has since quarantined. Per CDC guidance, contact tracing will not be required because the student’s last day to be present was Friday, August 21. The Centers for Disease Control defines close contact if it occurred during the infectious period of the case, defined as two days prior to symptom onset.
This document serves as notification to all parents of individuals who may have come into contact with the positive case, whether it meets the definition of “close contact” or not. Close contact is defined as being exposed to infectious secretions (i.e., being coughed on) or being within 6 feet for a cumulative duration of fifteen minutes. We strongly encourage you to monitor your child for COVID-19 symptoms (see cdc.gov for more information) and keep them home and seek medical attention if they exhibit any of those symptoms.
As an additional precaution, Seminole ISD is in the process of thoroughly disinfecting all areas of Seminole High School. Due to FERPA laws, Seminole ISD is not permitted to release individual names. Seminole ISD has referred the case to our partners at South Plains Public Health District. Those health officials will conduct the investigation, contact families, and perform any necessary contact tracing they deem appropriate.
